No Street Sweeping On 4th Of July

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, the City of Garden Grove will not provide street sweeping services on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Streets will be swept as scheduled on all other days.

One-Year Sewer Project To Cause Major Traffic Problems

Bumper-to-bumper traffic is heading this way. From July 6, 2009, to July 2010, tentatively, crews will carry out the first phase of a project to move the city’s largest above-ground street drainage systems, to 15 feet underground. The result, besides more effectively redirecting storm water, is major traffic problems. The project area lies primarily on Newland Street south of Westminster Avenue in the city of Westminster, and continues one block north of Westminster Avenue in the city of Garden Grove.

Approval of Water Park Hotel Brings Tide of Interest

McWhinney Enterprises, the developer of Southern California’s first major water park hotel, has received a flood of interest since the Garden Grove City Council gave the go-ahead last month for the development of a 600-room hotel connected to a three-acre water park.

The development, located in the City’s InternationalWEST resort area, 1.5 miles from the California Disney Resort, will offer visitors a 10-plus story, 600-room hotel containing 15,000 square-feet of meeting space, with an attached water park. The project will generate an estimated $5.3 million per year in tax revenue and create up to 600 temporary and permanent jobs.

Dive Into Summer with Garden Grove Aquatics

Get ready to make a splash on Saturday, June 13. It will be the first opportunity for swimmers to sign up for summer aquatics. Residents can register beginning at 9:00 a.m., while non-resident registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

Registration takes place at Garden Grove City Hall, 11222 Acacia Parkway, until 12:00 p.m.

The June 13th registration will be held only for the following sessions:
Session A - June 22 to July 2
Session B - July 6 to July 16

OC Animal Care's Spay/Neuter Voucher Program

OC Animal Care has implemented a Spay/Neuter Voucher Program to help reduce the overpopulation of pets.

The program targets stray animals brought to the animal shelter that have not been spayed or neutered.

Firework Sales Have Police On Lookout For Illegal Use

Safe and sane fireworks are now on sale in Garden Grove, but individuals with illegal fireworks are buying trouble from the Garden Grove Police and Fire departments. Violators can receive a $1,000 citation for possessing illegal fireworks or misusing the legal kind.

Memorial Highway Sign Installed

The SR-22 “Garden Grove Police Officers Memorial Highway” sign has been installed as of Tuesday, June 23. The sign stands west of the Harbor Boulevard exit, on the westbound 22 Freeway. Mayor Bill Dalton, along with other elected officials and invited guests made a brief presentation to members of the media at 2:00 p.m., at the Call to Duty memorial, in front of Police Headquarters, at 11301 Acacia Parkway.

Heavy Equipment Show Rumbles Into Local School

There was quite a rumble at Wakeham Elementary School on Thursday, June 4, as students welcomed the City's annual Equipment Show, presented by the Garden Grove Public Works Department. The show, organized in recognition of National Public Works Week, celebrated May 17-23, brings heavy trucks and equipment to local elementary schools for hands-on learning.
