“The economy may be stalled, but Garden Grove is not standing still,” said Garden Grove Mayor Bill Dalton at Tuesday’s annual State of the City luncheon, hosted by the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Dalton discussed adjustments made by the City as a result of declining sales tax and property tax revenue, the state’s estimated $21 billion deficit, and more than $13 million in city tax funds seized by the state.

These adjustments include a continued City hiring freeze, and a $5.3 million reduction to the General Fund budget.

On the positive front, Mayor Dalton pointed to several developments moving forward this year, including the Brookhurst Triangle, the Embassy Suites expansion, Century Triangle, and the water park hotel. Another area of economic health for the City is the boost to local tourism from the $1.3 billion Disney California Adventure renovation.

Important successes of 2009 included major upgrades to the City’s aging infrastructure, the relocation of Garden Grove Hyundai to the Garden Grove Auto Mall, and the groundbreaking for the Buena Clinton Youth and Family Center.
